What many people don’t realize is that conventional feminine hygiene products are harming our bodies. Conventional tampons and pads contain chemicals, toxins, additives, and synthetic materials. They are often made from chlorine-bleached and pesticide-grown cotton blends. These chemicals are known carcinogens (substances directly involved in causing cancer) and are being directly absorbed by our vaginal walls.
Beyond chemicals, pesticides and the potentially deadly bacteria associated with tampons, you’ll also find fragrance. And fragrance, like any cosmetics, often contain dozens of irritating chemicals that could possibly cause rashes or worse. But, there are healthier alternatives for managing your monthly cycle. They’re better for the environment and safer for you. “Ami Zota, assistant professor of environmental health at George Washington University, says that scientists believe tampons don’t go through the body’s typical elimination and metabolic processes. Rather, chemicals from tampons are “absorbed by the vaginal mucosa, and from there are able to pass almost directly into your bloodstream.” And that’s not all. Because tampons are considered a medical device they don’t have to label their ingredients. And FYI, 85% of tampons contain cotton that was sprayed with glyphosate. That simply cannot be good for the inside of your vagina.
